why i make art
Indigenous art, vast open spaces and dramatic plain changes of the American southwest shape my expression of line, form and space.
Architecture, relationships and ritual are prominent inspirations in my sculpture. I am drawn to architecture because of the strong bold lines and that it is the way in which knowledge, wealth and great accomplishments of past and present civilizations are marked and evaluated.
Relationships are important as they create tension between people, the environment or objects, it can be positive or negative but it shapes how we interact within our world. I love ritual; it is present in every level of our lives from the starting of our day to the most important sacred ceremony.
The ritual that I deeply connect with is the ringing of a bell. There is something really special about that sound that marks a time, occasion or completes a thought or prayer. The results are simple and bold pieces that visually narrate dynamics that I see within our world.
